STP and Distribution

Sewer from three homes and School amenities at an Outback School was run through 3 small Sewer Treatment Plants to this distribution well. What was once a dust bowl is now a green, grassed play oval of approx 30 x 50 metres.

Drain Repair

No relining this time. After CCTV inspection and diagnosis small sections of drains were replaced and sewer junctions with large diameter access risers were installed as a safer alternative to using access manholes.

Hydro-Vac

An example of hydro-vac excavtion. This high pressure gas main was suspected to be leaking. After setting up traffic control and emergency procedures it was carefully located by potholing. Following this the entire tee section and pipes were exposed for an easy and safe repair.

2020 July - Junction Repair

Repair in progress on a broken junction which was letting in tree roots and blocking continually. The junction is being lined with epoxy plastic which is reinforced with a plastic felt. The junction is inserted, the air bag which transports it expanded and then cured using hot steam.

2020 March - Addition to Technical Equipment

Crane with winch and windlass built and attached to trailer for the safe and easy lifting of pumps from sewer pump wells. This is just another example of efficient problem solving and adaptability.

2019 October - Addition to Technical Equipment

Purpose built Vacuum Excavation Truck which has capability to dig any ground using either high pressure water (hydro) or high velocity air (pnuematic) and then vacuum load spoils for site use or offsite disposal.

2021 July - New Drain Camera

My drain camera was also amongst the equipment stolen recently, however this has also now led to the purchase of an even better camera to take it's place. This camera has pan and tilt capability. This enables better viewing of cracks in the walls of a pipe and also easily looks up lateral junctions.

Unfortunately my water jetter was stolen recently, however this has now led to the purchase of an even more powerful machine to take it's place. This beast puts out 35 l/min @ 5000 psi. With water jetting expertise gained over 30 years since I built my very first water jetter in 1991, what I can do with this machine will not disappoint you. It will scour your drains clean and oblitorate tree roots.

So what is Underground Asset Locating
An underground asset is a service such as an electrical cable, water pipe, gas pipe, or communication cable etc. Underground Asset Locating is quite simply, finding these services that we cannot see with our eyes, usually using electronic devices.
Most underground services can be located using an electromagnetic locator. Metal services such as gal pipes and also copper cables are straight forward.
When the service is not metallic other methods can be added on to enable locating them. Some fibre optic cables have been laid in place with a metal tracer wire for locating. Drains can be located with this method by sending a frequency emitting sonde down the drain with the aid of pushrods, ropes, cctv camera or water jetter. Plastic water pipes and drains can also be found by inserting a metal wire or pushrod, and then tracing this.
There are other methods such as ultrasonic pulsing to locate plastic water pipes and even gas pipes. Another method is Ground Penetrating Radar. It has it's limitations and is quite expensive, but with adequate interpreting software and trained proffessionals, you can see practically anything underground.
Once the underground services have been located, marked and mapped out it is usually best to have them exposed by potholing, which you can read about on the Potholing Page. Non destructive excavation such as Potholiung is your guaranteed way to avoid digging up or even breaking an essential or dangerous service.
