STP and Distribution

So what is Underground Asset Locating
An underground asset is a service such as an electrical cable, water pipe, gas pipe, or communication cable etc. Underground Asset Locating is quite simply, finding these services that we cannot see with our eyes, usually using electronic devices. underground_service_locator
Most underground services can be located using electromagnetic Frequency Locators (EMF). Metal services such as gal pipes and also copper cables are straight forward. Renopipe uses the best EMF Locator available to trace and locate your unseen underground services.
When the service is not metallic other methods can be added on to enable locating them. Some fibre optic cables have been laid in place with a metal tracer wire for locating. Drains can be located with this method by sending a frequency emitting sonde down the drain with the aid of pushrods, ropes, cctv camera or water jetter. Renopipe frequently uses cctv drain cameras to aid in locating and mapping of non metalic drains, ducts and conduits. There are other methods such as ultrasonic pulsing and highly sensitive listening equipment to locate plastic water pipes and even gas pipes. Another method is Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). It has some limitations like all methods and is more expensive, but with adequate interpreting software and trained professionals, you can see practically anything underground. GPR is a great method to backup and verify results found using other methods such as EMF. At other times it either the only way to see what is underground or is the quickest method. Renopipe uses GPR where needed to give you the most accurate and reliable report of what is underground.
Once the underground services have been located, marked and mapped out it is usually best to have them exposed by potholing. Non destructive excavation such as Hydro-Vac or Pnuematic-Vac Potholing is your guaranteed way to avoid digging up or even breaking an essential or dangerous service.
